Not my usual weekend
I just spent the entire weekend cleaning my room. It's actually an ironic time for me to clean up now because my wall will be torn down tomorrow. I had to pack the contents of some of my shelves into boxes. I've never boxed up my things before!
For me, cleaning up has always been an experience of revisiting the past. I always find trinkets from high school, and now, college. Most of the stuff I find conjecture images that are fun to revisit. Some, quite a few though, are mementos that are tempting to dispose of in the bin.
I love how my room feels and looks just after it's been "reclaimed."
It's true what they say that your physical environment affects your mental state. Cluttered space = chaos in my head. Ahh. It just feels really odd to wake up to a sight of empty shelves.
I don't know what other insightful thought I can come up with about cleaning, so I leave you with some strange random facts about me, my room, and my mess.
The messiest area of my room is my dresser. Perhaps it's because this is where all the morning and evening action happens. I always feel joy when I clear more than a foot's worth of working space on it. I love seeing it clean, but it doesn't stay clean very long either. I've got loads of products that I use for my regimens, and it's getting harder to keep them organized. This time, I think I got it. Let's see how the new system goes.
The most organized cabinet in my room is my night stand. My night stand came straight from the condo, has two drawers, and for some reason, I cannot stand it being disheveled. On top of my night stand is my night lamp (bought with my very first paycheck!), iPod speakers, eye drops, current reads, Mickey Mouse digital clock from HK Disneyland, my cellphone, 2 picture frames (one of my college barkada, and one from high school with Char), and my Bible.
I want a bigger shoe closet. Right now, my shoe cabinet is about 2' x 4', with six layers.
The closet I dread organizing is my clothes closet. I tried organizing by color, by type, by season, by "wearing frequency", but it's just crazy.
My "I-don't-know-how-to-fix-you" cabinet is my bag cabinet.
My room's color is white with peach trimmings.
I really enjoy my blinds. It keeps my room dim 24/7. I only need a well-lit dresser, but I want everything else dimly lit. The ambience is just nicer.
Whenever I clean my room, my cleaning time is usually from 4pm to 7pm.
I wish I had more picture frames with more updated photos.
I love my bed the most. It makes perfect sense because I love to sleep. I really love to sleep.
Ah, I just realized that I haven't told the story explaining why my wall is being torn down. Well, my parents decided to expand Josh's and my room, and our common bathroom (which I never use except during the middle of the night). I am really fine with my living space right now, but Josh's room is pretty tiny for him and all his 5'7" glory. The thing is, there was no way to expand his room without touching mine too, I think our house would be shaped irregularly, if ever, so there, chop-chop. I guess it's fine. I am forced to declutter and finally throw away (or donate) things that I haven't used in ages. I never could logically explain why I hang on to some of my things.
